Quilts Spreading Warmth for the Body and Soul
Sometimes the light breaks through the dark clouds of our COVID crisis revealing a silver lining of positivity. Such is the case with one of our more recent sales here at Sunnyside.
On a dreary day, this past December we received a call from a gentleman inquiring about our ability to provide quilts for the COVID ICU unit at Mission Hospital here in Asheville. What initially appeared to be a solicitation was actually a request to purchase not one but twenty-four quilts that in turn would be donated to the hospital.
As much as we would like to put this good Samaritan in the limelight, we are honoring his request for anonymity. What we can tell you is he is a frequent visitor to our lovely city; he has great friends here and he has been directly impacted by the ravishing effects of COVID.
Beyond bringing warmth and color to otherwise sterile hospital rooms this random act of kindness has had a farther-reaching impact than our new friend can imagine. The nurses and staff of Mission have been greatly impacted by his generosity as has everyone here at Sunnyside. We are honored to have been able to assist in such a heart-felt purchase and look forward to hopefully one day being able to meet this kind individual in person.
In the meantime, we plan to remain in touch with his friend Hazel Brewin, a nurse in the COVID ICU unit at Mission Hospital who helped facilitate the delivery. Pictured here are some of the nurses along with one of the quilts that are now spread across all the beds within this unit of the hospital.
