Antique Chinese furniture was almost always originally lacquered. The late 19th/early 20th century furniture we mostly sell, came near the end of the last Chinese imperial dynasty, the Qing Dynasty. Most of the furniture was decorated in the imperial colors, red, black, and gold. We find some old cabinets that just need restoration to the case and the paint retouched. And we find some that the finish is not good, so we have them restored and repainted, in colors that were not used during this period, such as blues, greens, and orange/golds. After finding the pieces we send them to a workshop in Shandong and after restoration and repainting where necessary, we have the pieces lacquered several times. These lacquer pieces are often our most popular furniture we stock.
