A damachiya is a traditional wooden storage chest historically given as part of a bride’s dowry in rural India, used to hold textiles, jewelry, and household essentials as she began her new life. Crafted from solid teak wood, these damachiya chests are known for their carved facades, iron or brass hardware, painted or natural finishes, and some have painted tile details and secret spaces for valuables.
