A distinctive vintage Chinese birdcage dating to the first half of the 20th century. The tall rectangular cage features closely spaced vertical bars, a decorative upper framework, and a traditional arched hanging hook. A small perch remains inside, while the aged surface and simple handcrafted construction give the piece the character of an everyday object transformed by time and use.
Today, the birdcage makes an unusual decorative accent rather than a functional cage. Hang it from a ceiling hook or beam, or display it on a console, cabinet, or tabletop alongside pottery and other collected objects.
