A distinctive vintage Chinese birdcage dating to the first half of the 20th century. The cylindrical cage features closely spaced vertical bars with a decorative openwork band around the top and a traditional arched hanging hook above. Its simple construction and beautifully aged surface give the piece the character of an everyday utilitarian object that has become sculptural through time and use.
Today, the birdcage makes an unusual decorative accent rather than a functional cage. Hang it from a ceiling hook or beam, or display it on a console, cabinet, or tabletop alongside pottery and other collected objects.
