Authentic and rare Chang Naga Single Circle Cowry Shell Warrior's Cloth, a heavy cotton body cloth with original single cowry shell circles. 58"x41". The Chang Nagas are one of the tribes in Nagaland, on the very Northeast corned of India, abutting Mynamar. This is a very fine example of a warrior's cloth. Naga warrior's cloth is a ceremonial mantle or shawl, handwoven by various Naga tribes, that signifies a warrior's status, achievements, and tribal identity. These textiles are known for their intricate patterns, which often feature symbolic motifs like animal heads (e.g., bison, tiger, elephant) and geometric shapes. Some ceremonial cloths, such as those from the Chang Naga tribe, are decorated with cowrie shells to represent enemies taken in battle or the moon and tiger eyes.
