Antique Chinese Painted Elm Armoire, late Qing Dynasty, c. 1880. The old red painted facade features decoration of classical motifs in aged giltwood, including botanical and scholar's motifs. The carved plinth and sides were painted black and the whole has worn beautifully. With 2 original drawers on the inside and a brass full moon escutcheon and handles, this is perhaps our favorite Chinese painted armoire of all time.
