Antique Indian "Mandir" or small temple/altar
Antique Indian "Mandir" or small temple/altar, c. 1900, with a stepped facade and domed temple roof, the doors to the temple have been removed.
A Mandir provides a sacred space in one's home. Many homes in India have a puja or prayer room where daily offerings are made. Mandirs were specifically made to hold a diety, incense, and sacred objects. This is a superb example of Indian spiritual folk art.
