Antique Chinese Painted Elm Compound Gate, 117Hx83.5×2

Antique Chinese Painted Elm Compound Gate, of the highest quality avilable, from Shanxi province, 19th century. The doors retain much of their old brown lacquer finish, offset with intricate wrought iron decoration, and applied and painted iron designs of dragons, foo dog protectors, and botanical motifs. The opening hardware has foo dog heads holding the rings. It would be difficult to find a higher quality or more exuberant pair of compound doors. These doors would have been the main entry through the walled protection of a traditional style Siheyuan compound.
