The Silk Road Runs Through Asheville!

Antique Central Asian Suzani

Antique Central Asian Suzani, 78'' x 55'' late 19th/early 20th c. some brown spotting, normal for its age, would make a fabulous upholsterted headboard.

Suzani is a Persian word meaning "needle work," and these beautiful tapestries were made popular by trade through the silk routes. The botanical motif stitchings are hand-done by women in nomadic tribes in Uzbekistan and are rich in history, telling stories of the individual women's lives and their community, from birth to marriage.
